Learn about the details of a destination wedding in this magical city by the hand of two protagonists, Andrea Espíndola and Otto Paladines, who travelled to make their dream come alive and to declare their eternal love for one another on June 29, 2018 right from one of the most romantic cities in South America, bestowed by the World Travel Awards as a Leading Honeymoon Destination for 2018.
¿Cómo describe la organización de su boda y quién estuvo a cargo de la planificación?
A.E.: La organización fue puntual y sin ningún contratiempo. Tres meses antes de la boda, viaje a la ciudad de Cartagena para buscar asesoría en la planeación y contar con la destacada Wedding Planner Mary Cueter Bodas y Eventos, lo cual fue muy importante en el proceso.
How would you describe the organization of your wedding and who was in charge of the planning?
A.E.: The organization was punctual and without any delays. I travelled to Cartagena three months prior to the wedding to seek assistance with the planning and to rely on the outstanding skills of Wedding Planner Mary Cueter Bodas y Eventos, that was most important in the process.
¿Qué es lo que más disfrutó de esta experiencia?
A.E.: Lo que más gocé de esta experiencia en nuestro país vecino fue la asistencia de todos los invitados. Fue realmente lindo compartir varios días antes de la boda con algunas actividades que les permitieron conocerse entre sí y que el viaje fuera aún más enriquecedor para todos.
What was the most enjoyable aspect of this experience?
A.E.: What I most enjoyed in our neighboring country was the attendance of all of the guests. It was truly wonderful to share various activities with our friends which enabled them to get to know one another and that the trip would be even more enriching for everyone.
¿Cuál fue el estilo escogido para la decoración, quién estuvo a cargo de la misma y qué fue lo más impactante?
A.E.: Yo buscaba algo bohemio, elegante y natural. Estaba un poco nerviosa ya que deseaba hacer la boda en un lugar abierto y no un salón. Un mes antes de la boda, fue uno de los más calientes y lluviosos, por lo que realizamos la boda en una capilla de un monasterio, un lugar único, que combinado con la decoración de David Vásquez, logró el ambiente que tanto queríamos.
Lo que más nos impactó fue el techo lleno de velas. Encenderlas llevó más de 5 horas para que estuviera listo a nuestra llegada.
Tuvimos una pared vertical verde tras la estación de dulces, siendo ésta mi favorita, quedando todos fascinados con la magia creativa de David Vázquez.
La torta de boda fue de 4 pisos, cada piso de diferentes sabores, a saber, vainilla, chocolate con Bailey´s, de limón con “poppy seeds” y otro con nueces. Entre los dulces teníamos brownies, shots de tres leches, shots de pie de limón, dulce de almendras, entre otras exquisitas opciones.
Which was the style selected for the décor, who was in charge of the same and what was the most impacting aspect?
A.E.: I was looking for something out of the ordinary, elegant and natural. I was a bit nervous since I wanted to have the wedding in an open ambience and not in a ballroom. One month prior to the wedding was quite hot and rainy, thus I opted for the venue to be in the chapel of a monastery, a unique site that, combined with David Vásquez´s decorative skills, was a sure winner.
Most noteworthy was the ceiling full of candles. Lighting them took more than 5 hours so they would be ready upon our arrival.
We had a vertical, green wall behind the dessert selection with sweets that comprised my favorite table from the magical hands of David Vásquez,
The cake towered four stories, each one with different flavors, like vanilla, Bailey´s with chocolate, lemon with poppy seeds and another with nuts. Among the sweets there were brownies, “tres leches shots”, shots of lemon pie, walnut flan, as well as many other delicious choices.
¿Cuál es su recomendación para las novias que desean hacer su boda lejos de casa?
Lo más importante cuando se hace una boda lejos de casa es enviar un “marque la fecha” con unos 5-6 meses de anticipación, a fin de que todos puedan organizarse para asistir.
El otro punto es asesorarte con una Wedding Planner, toda vez que no quiero imaginar mi boda sin una especialista del destino. En efecto, esto nos permitió organizar eventos antes de la boda y actividades para que todos se conozcan y que el grupo sea una familia grande.
Las fotografías relatan la boda y gracias a Paloma Ayala, fotógrafa, todo esto quedó grabado en imágenes que son tan emotivas. Es así que cada vez que las miramos, nos sentimos dichosos. El destino fue realmente espectacular y todos mis invitados fueron con un espíritu único que le pusieron vida a todos los momentos con sus emociones y alegrías.
What is your recommendation for brides that wish to have their wedding away from home?
Most important when planning a trip away from home is to send a “mark the date” 5-6 months in advance so that everyone can get ready to attend.
Another factor is to seek the expertise of a Wedding Planner, given that I do not want to even imagine my wedding without a destination specialist. What is more, this permitted us to organize events prior to the wedding, as well as activities for everyone to get to know each other like a big family group.
The photographs tell about the wedding and thanks to Paloma Ayala, photographer, everything was caught on film. Therefore, each time we look at the pictures, we feel so happy. The venue was truly spectacular and all guests attended with a unique spirit that gave life to every moment, given their enthusiasm and joy.
